Morning sickness symptoms are signs that indicate the common condition that affects most pregnant women. These symptoms are most obvious around the 6th week of the pregnancy which translates to the third week after conception. Medical experts have linked the onset of these symptoms with the increased levels of the hormone HCG in a woman’s body.

This hormone causes one to become hyper sensitive to tastes and scents that might be toxic to the highly vulnerable fetus despite being quite okay for the mother. As such this role of this hormone is more evolutionary rather than pathological as is with most body functions. Once the embryo attaches on the uterine wall the hormone is produced and its levels increased exponentially every two days. This peaks at around the said 6th week before tapering off gradually at around the 12th- 14th week when the conditions stops in most pregnancies.

Although the severity of the symptoms is very different; with women carrying multiple pregnancies more susceptible to harsher symptoms; almost all women experience this natural process which is the second sign of pregnancy after a missed period.

The morning sickness symptoms are ideally the same in most cases the difference only being the severity in each individual case. These signs include nausea, tiredness and vomiting. Nausea and queasiness are particularly marked when one encounters a strong smelling or tasting thing. As such food is the biggest culprit when these symptoms are concerned.

One can also experience nausea without vomiting which can be very upsetting. Doctors have also realized that the severity of nausea can also be acerbated by fatigue and tiredness. This indicates the reason why most women tend to suffer from this condition mainly at night or towards the end of the day when their energy levels are at their lowest. Although quite uncomfortable these symptoms tend to last up to the 12th week and thus one can weather them easily knowing that it is only a temporary storm.
